“Unity” is a motion-first design approach. An evolution of a system intended to visualize progress and structure by using a rigid grid to show people, data, technology, and their proximity.
Under it all.
Beneath a thin outer crust is an endless graphic matrix that is always moving, buzzing, and adapting.
The story of “Unity” is the journey of how we carefully weave between this 2-ply system.
Everything hinges on our ability to carefully reveal the magnificently complex architecture that lies just beyond our friendly and seemingly simple facade.
Keyframes first.
In contrast to a more common design workflow, we often found ourselves starting with animation as a vehicle for abstract discovery. We’d then identify moments of interest and weave them into the static design language.
We consider everything that lives in the illustrated matrix as if it could animate itself into life. . . . even if it never does.
